Leeds is a great city to visit depending on what you want, but generally something for everyone. Lots of independent coffee shops, great restaurants, history and some lovely parks not too far from the city centre. The Royal Armouries, great theatre and music venues! I might be biased but I'd certainly give it a shout here.

York is lovely (but then you already know that
Harrogate - a lovely spa town in North Yorkshire.
And on the Yorkshire Coast, try Scarborough, Whitby, and/or Filey - you could do them all in a weekend, probably staying in Scarborough or Filey. This coast is one of my favourite places to spend weekend.

        Any other recommendations?

Cambridge. Beautiful buildings, easily walkable and lots going on.

Been away recently in Shaftesbury and on the way home called into Winchester for a look at the lights and Christmas market . Lights were nice although not spectacular but the Christmas market around the cathedral was one of the best I’ve seen in this country , not just food stalls but lots of crafts etc. if you go use the park and rides around the city as it’s a medieval nightmare driving around . After 10am it’s only £3 for the p and r and regular buses .
