Hi, Lily put me onto this new forum! So as I close down my allotment I'm left with a bounty of spare veg, so I've made red and green tomatoes chutney, tomato pasta sauce, tomato sauce and amazing Nasturtium pesto!
I've frozen the sauces and bottled up the chutney and pesto, maybe some will be Christmas presents but if I do that I may not have enough for me!!!
Dinner tonight before I taught Yoga was two types of pasta, one with tomato sauce the other with pesto. Made me pause, take an inhale in and smile on my exhale. Taste is amazing plus I made it!
My veg patch is called Temple Cloud (it's part of my Temple Cloud Enterprises company) so I always sign off saying feeling blessed at Temple Cloud.

YogaGary welcome to the Community Café!!
Love to read about your allotment. You, PhilBlackman and CatherineUchendu have really raised my bar about gardening, feeling my geraniums are not enough. I also want fresh veggies! 🤤
Bt the way, please do share your pesto or chutney recipe!! Isn't Nasturtim a flower?? You can make pesto with flowers?

Hi, the Nasturtium leaves are a peppery delight and the flowers are very tasty in a salad.
Once you eat the leaves, you may think "huh, doesn't taste of much" but then you get a real peppery flavour in the back of your throat! They're delicious.
Strongly recommend growing some in pots, they're a great addition to a salade and of course pesto!

YogaGary the more you know! Thanks for sharing these tips. I wonder where can I find them (since I have no allotment and my garden is absolutely barren). Maybe M&S?

Lily Hey, I haven't seen Nasturtium leaves and flowers for sale anywhere near where I live. Doesn't mean they're not for sale, they may be somewhere!
You could make them the traditional way using basil leaves?
          My recipe is:
A load of leaves, enough to fill my large food processor!
40g of yeast flakes - instead of parmesan
          100g of toasted pine nuts
          2 tablespoons of lemon juice
Salt and pepper plus a bit of paprika
Chuck everything in, blitz it, taste, adjust how you like it, jar it up, really simple.
You can freeze it in ice cube trays to add to dishes
An earthy alternative to Nasturtium and basil are stinging nettles, but you have to blanch them first before making pesto
